I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, living vicariously through my children is my favorite thing about being a mom. Witnessing their unabashed joy in the littlest of things is the best way for me to see life in the proper perspective. They are my role models in this regard. They are my daily reminders to stop and smell the roses.
Last weekend we headed out on a mini-trip. We met up with my bro and his family for a scenic train ride a couple hours away, followed by a night in a cabin by the river. It was just what I needed. Sometimes in the midst of life’s craziness the best thing to do is just push everything aside, put it all in the back of your mind, and go do something fun. And that’s exactly what we did.
This kid is seriously such a ham!
Love these guys…
The train ride was seriously SO cool. And we got the best fall weather. The train cars were very rustic with wide open windows you could hang your head out and listen to the creaky sounds of the wheels on the tracks. The kids were just in awe the whole time. Highlights included a pass through a long, dark tunnel and stopping on narrow tracks over the gorgeous river. See for yourself:
The water was the most amazing color and these photos just don’t do the height justice! It was seriously freaky being so far above water with wide open windows! So breathtaking, though.
Other highlights from our little excursion include: hot kettlecorn, cousin bonding, late night chats over wine after the kids were in bed, a trip to an indoor aquatic center, and an epic sunrise over the river from our cabin…
Now, I’m back to the grind of everyday life, but I’m feeling refreshed. Going through these photos makes me realize just how much I have to be grateful for.
