Dreams To Do

Okay, I get it: The fitness craze

I spent my childhood running around the great outdoors. In middle school I played volleyball because all of my friends did. In high school I focused in on art and studying my butt off. And then I became a couch potato. Seriously, when people asked me what my hobbies were, the first thing that popped into my head was “watching TV.” But of course, that’s not what I would respond with.

Over the years I’ve experienced several bouts of “working out,” but nothing has really stuck. I’d get fired up for a couple of weeks, maybe a month and then I would fizzle out. It just wasn’t fun to me. I craved something active that I actually enjoyed (besides hiking and snowboarding which aren’t exactly easy to do on a daily basis).

So, I’ve never believed all the hype that living an active lifestyle = less stress, more energy, more happiness. I never believed it because I never had experienced it.

But, I have now.

Back in November I started working out a little bit. And then in December I added on a little more. And now I am getting at least 4 solid hours of fitness in every week. This is in addition to loading the kids in and out of the car and picking up a slew of scattered toys all over our house every night. That’s a lot of exercise for a full-time working mom with two kids!!! One of my big excuses for not working out in the past was that I didn’t have time. But ya know what? Exercising consistently has given me more energy than I’ve ever had before. I used to hardly be able to keep my eyes open at 10pm and now I have to make myself get ready for bed. It’s fabulous! I’m able to stay up a little bit later and get things done that I never “had time for” before.

Coming from a past certified couch potato, I’m telling you that making time to exercise is SO worth it. But more importantly, you have to find something active that you actually LIKE doing. Don’t settle. You shouldn’t feel like you’re forcing yourself to work out. You should do it because you actually WANT to. It took me a long time to find something I like as much as the Bar Method and I’m sure it is different for everyone. But, it’s true what they say: you get to a point where it becomes an addiction – a very good addiction.

It’s Not About Being The Best,
It’s About Being Better Than You Were Yesterday

So, it feels SUPER awkward for me to post these pics of myself. I hate doing it. But ya know what? I have never felt better about the way I look than I do now. And if I can inspire someone else to get active, then it’s worth it.

You look amazing!! I so wish there was a Bar Method class near me so I could try it. I do really enjoy Zumba, but it’s only once a week and I don’t even get there that often lately. I guess I’m still looking for something that clicks (oh how I wish that were running!).

THANKS! Keep looking for something girl! Yeah, I have never enjoyed running. Ever. But, Andy just ordered us a treadmill, so I may give it a try again. If not, at least some brisk walking. Aerobic activity is what I’m not getting in right now.

I need to make myself try something. I did Zumba and Jazzercise for a while but I had to force myself to go to both of them. Other people were addicted, but it just wasn’t for me. Um.. so you look amazing! You know one of those people that you say there is no way that she has had 2 kids! We have the Bar Method near me, but it is not in the budget right now. =(

Yeah, it is really spendy! I justify the cost because I started the Bar Method right after Landon moved from the baby to the toddler room at daycare which saved us $100/month. And now that I feel so great I see that it’s totally worth it.

Hopefully I can budget something in here shortly when my husband is working a more steady schedule. Also I just looked at I thought we had a Bar Method class here, but I guess not =(

Ha! That’s fine. I just hate when people tell me I need to eat more or that I look anorexic – that is SO far from the truth!

THANK YOU!!! I’m happy to help motivate you. :-)

You look great! You’re doing an awesome job between work, the kids, and exercising. I have tried so hard to like exercising, especially since Chris exercises six days a week, but I just don’ttt. Maybe I’ll try again after the baby. :)

No, you let me know if you want to try out a Bar class! You’re up on the south hill, right? I have a free guest pass! :-)

First of all, stop lying to all of your readers. We know you’re really a 63 year old hag with a beer gut who is just really adept at photoshop!

All jokes aside girl you look amazing. Fitness has always been a big part of my life, and even though my body doesn’t look quite like yours (even not pregnant), it still makes me feel good about myself and strong.

Is that all from the Barre classes you do? Speak to me since I will be needing a post-baby routine come May.

And don’t feel awkward at all to post those pics. If I had that body, I would have zero friends because I’d be walking around all day in hot pants and pasties. True story.

Why you have to call me out like that? :-) Yes, this is all from the Bar Method! It is seriously an intense 60 minute work out that sculpts your muscles and burns fat FAST! I’ve never tried anything like it. And watching all of the women in my classes transform over the past few months has been amazing! I highly recommend that you see if there’s a studio near you. OR, they have DVDs (but I’m more of a fan of the studio setting).
PS – I love you. You always put a smile on my face. :-) (I guess I’m kind of a creeper. Ha!)

      • Melissa @ Completely Eclipsed

Oh I’m equally as creepy! I’ll have to check out the bar method. I know there’s a barre3 not too fa away. I’ll have to see if its similar.
